Holiday Essential Oil Salt Dough Recipe

I’ve got the Holiday crafting bug! Anyone else with me?! This past weekend I had some time to make these simple and easy holiday essential oil salt dough ornaments. This craft would be so fun to do with your family. Your kids will enjoy each step in the process and maybe will even help knead the dough. ;) It’s always fun to make memories and these ornaments will save a little piece of the experience forever.

SUPPLIES

  • 2 cups All-Purpose Flour

  • 1 Cup Salt

  • 1 Cup cold Water

  • Large measuring cup or bowl

  • Spatula or whisk

  • Rolling pin

  • Cookie sheet

  • Cookie cutters

  • Cookie Letter Stamps, here are the ones I used.

  • Pencil or straw (to make holes)

  • Any essential oil you would like to add after they are baked. (Thank me later :))

  • Decorative ribbon or string

  • Paint, glitter or whatever other craft supplies you want to use after they are cooked.

D I R E C T I O N S

  1. Mix flour and salt together in a bowl. Slowly mix water, a few tablespoons at a time, into flour mixture until dough is smooth and easy to handle. Knead dough for 10 minutes and let rest for 20 minutes.

  2. Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).

  3. Form dough into desired shapes and arrange on a baking sheet.

  4. Bake in the preheated oven until dry and hard, about 2 hours. Allow to cool completely.

  5. Add your Essential Oil of choice to the dried ornaments for a lovely winter scent! Add ornaments to gifts or use as name tags! The aroma will add a little something to your very special gift!

Edit* Check periodically throughout baking. I left mine to bake for the whole two hours and they were a little more toasty than I would have liked. Everything else was great!

We hope this craft brings lots of smiles, messy hands and lots of cheer! We could all use a little of that this year! ;)
