3 Handmade Holiday Gifts to Make with Kids
I wanted to make special keepsake gifts for our family this year. As you can see, there is a pretty obvious theme going on here! Handprints! It’s so easy to do, and makes such a special gift for any grandma, grandpa or whoever is lucky enough to receive one! :) Your kids will love doing this activity, even if it may be a tad messy. The results are adorable and you will treasure these items forever.
With most crafts I make, I try to make them very affordable. I didn’t have any plain white ceramic coffee mugs or plates, so I decided to run to my nearest Dollar Tree and see what they had. I snagged a few pieces for $3 and this plaid apron from Target for $10. You don’t have to break the bank to make a special gift! The personalization will MAKE the gift anyway, so don’t worry if you don’t have the “perfect” item to start with.
Don’t be afraid to get creative with the design, you can keep it simple or go all out. If you mess up, you can always wipe it off and try again. I re-did the cookie plate at least four times before I was happy with it. Have fun with it, you have lots of wiggle room here! :)
S U P P L I E S
Plate, mug or whatever you would like to decorate.
Mult-Surface Paint. I used the Folkart brand that can be found at Michaels or Joann’s.
Paint pen used for glass. (Optional)
Paint brushes
Instructions
Grab your plate, or mug or whatever you will be decorating ready.
Paint on your decorations to your hearts content!
Then, put your plate, mug, etc. in the oven and set it to 300 degrees. DO NOT pre-heat your oven (you don’t want your plate to crack from the heat…instead you want it to warm up gradually). Bake at 300 for 35 minutes.
Remove from oven and let cool. That’s it!
The possibilities are endless for this craft. If you don’t want to make a plate or mug, you can stamp a wine glass, vase for flowers or gardening gloves for those who love the outdoors!
Have fun and craft away!
